Murano Glass Diamond Centerpiece — Aquilone

Aquilone is a kite, and the shape is exactly that — a long diamond, wider at one end, the form every child draws. Held up to a window it does what a kite does: it becomes a shape made of light with a frame around it.

The whole surface is a mosaic of transparent and opaque glass in many colours, with gold leaf laid between the fragments. The diamond is harder to compose than a square, because the eye follows the long axis and the design has to survive being read in one direction.

Three lengths, from 19 cm to 43 cm. The longest is the one to use across a table; the smallest works propped, where the shape can be seen whole.
