Coriandoli are the paper confetti thrown at Carnival — and Venice invented that too, in the sense that it invented the kind of Carnival worth throwing them at. For two weeks the city stops being careful. This little bowl is what is left on the floor afterwards, in the best sense.

A small coloured bowl, eight centimetres across, packed with Venetian murrine. At this scale the murrine are nearly the whole object — there is barely any plain glass for them to sit in, which is what makes it read as scattered colour rather than as a decorated bowl.

Nine colours. They are made to be collected: three or four together on a shelf do something a single one cannot, and at this size that is a reasonable thing to do.
