A layer of silver leaf is laid into the glass, and over it gold leaf decorations are placed by hand while everything is still molten. The base and the rim are drawn in black glass, so the gold sits in a dark frame and lifts — the way sunlight lifts off a shaded square. The colour runs through the body of the glass, never on its surface.

In the small square it holds keys by a door. In the long rectangular format it runs down the middle of a table, or along a console where it will catch every lamp in the room.
