Farfalle — Murano Glass Vase
Farfalle — "butterflies" — is the moment a garden lands on glass. A pair of vases in milk-white lattimo, the prized opaque glass Murano has treasured since the Renaissance, alive with a swarm of jewel-bright butterflies that seem to have settled on the surface just now — and might lift off again the moment you turn away. Designed by Stefano Poletti, it is pure joy rendered in glass.
Each butterfly is a tiny artwork in its own right: individually shaped in coloured Murano glass — reds, ambers, blues, greens — then applied by hand onto the white body while both are still hot, so they fuse into the vase rather than sit on it. It is painstaking, delicate work; a single wing set a fraction wrong and the piece is lost. Mouth-blown and assembled entirely by hand by masters who have inherited seven centuries of Venetian glassmaking, no two vases ever wear the same flight of butterflies.
Choose the tall, elegant silhouette or the fuller, rounder form — one alone is a burst of colour against white, the pair a whole garden in motion.
