Murano Glass Centerpiece — Marea
Marea is the tide. In Venice it is not weather, it is furniture — it arrives, the city arranges itself around it, and it leaves a line on every wall to say how high it came. Those tide-lines are the most Venetian ornament there is, and nobody designed them.
A single colour sits at the centre on a layer of silver leaf, and around it runs a border of glass mosaic in ivory, black and the same colour repeated — the band a tide leaves behind. Venetian murrine and gold leaf are worked into the field. The border is the point of the piece: it holds the centre the way a quay holds water.
Made in Venetian red, blue and green. The long R50 format is the one to use as a table runner — the border reads as a continuous line down the length of a table.
