Sipario — Murano Glass TV Mirror
Venice invented the evening out. In 1637, at the Teatro San Cassiano, the city opened the first public opera house in the world: no longer a court entertainment for invited guests, but a show anyone could buy a ticket for. And every one of those evenings began the same way, with the sipario — the curtain that hides the stage until the moment it is time to look. This mirror does exactly that with your television.
Switched off, Sipario is simply a Venetian mirror: black and gold glass, engraved by hand, hanging on the wall like any other piece of the collection. Switched on, the picture appears through the glass and the mirror becomes a screen. It is the elegant answer to the problem every beautiful room has — a large black rectangle that no one knows where to put.
The frame measures 175 × 190 cm around a 52-inch screen. Panels of deep black Murano glass are engraved by hand with scrolling foliage and framed by gold-toned rods; at the crest, at the corners and along the lower rail open clusters of amber-gold glass leaves and flowers, shaped one by one in the flame. The proportions are those of a Venetian overmantel mirror — nothing about it says "television".
It belongs above a fireplace, in a living room, in a master bedroom or in a hotel suite. Each piece is made to order around the screen, so the frame can be built for a different size, and the colours can be changed: ask us and we will prepare a bespoke quote.
Sipario is handmade in Murano by Fratelli Tosi, a family glassworks founded in the early 1900s by Romano Tosi and known worldwide for its Venetian mirrors and Murano glass furniture.
