On the great bend of Venice's Grand Canal stands Ca' Foscari — a Gothic palace of white stone and pointed arches, built for a doge and still, six centuries on, one of the most photographed façades in the world. This chandelier belongs to that address. Cast in the classic Venetian Rezzonico style — the grand, flowered form that has crowned Murano's finest rooms since the eighteenth century — it opens like a chandelier from a state ballroom: tier upon tier of curved arms, glass leaves and blossoms.
Every arm, flower and leaf is mouth-blown and shaped by hand on the island of Murano, then assembled one piece at a time by a master heir to seven centuries of Venetian glassmaking. Nothing is pressed, nothing moulded: a chandelier of this scale is weeks of patient work, and no two are ever exactly alike.
