Giungla — Murano Glass Tall Vase
Giungla — "jungle" — is Murano at its most exuberant. Bodies of opaque glass swept with feathered ribbons of pure colour — deep greens, reds, golds and blues — combed together into flame-like plumes, as though a whole tropical canopy had been folded into the glass. No two vases share the same pattern; each is a small, riotous piece of paradise.
The polychromy is built from colori in pasta — solid coloured Murano glass — laid onto the body and then combed by hand with an iron tool while molten, dragging the colours into the feathered "penne" pattern the island has prized for centuries. It is fast, irreversible work: the maestro has seconds to draw the jungle before the glass sets. Mouth-blown and shaped entirely by hand by masters who have inherited seven centuries of Venetian glassmaking, every Giungla is unrepeatable.
This dramatic tall vase, its neck curving like a stem, reaches sixty centimetres — a whole living jungle of glass on its own.
