For a thousand years Venice was a republic that lived entirely by sea, and the sail is still the shape the city thinks in. In glass it becomes something a canvas sail can never be: transparent, curved as though full of wind, and lit from within.

Each sail is hand-drawn into a thin sheet of molten glass and fused to the hull while both are still hot — worked in seconds, before the glass cools and the shape is lost forever. This piece is coloured in bold, saturated tones of red and blue, the two hues meeting along the curve of the sail like colour caught mid-turn — dramatic against a dark room, the glass seeming to hold its own light.
