Philosophy — Murano Glass Low Vase
Every philosophy begins with two opposites and the search for the line where they meet. This vase holds that line in glass: above, warm amber full of daylight; below, deep tobacco darkness; between them, a slow, burning horizon where one becomes the other — dusk, made permanent. The body is a quiet monolith with softly rounded corners, its faces ground and polished by hand until the glass reads like still water.
Philosophy is built on incalmo, one of the rarest and most demanding techniques of Murano: two bubbles of glass are blown separately, opened, and joined rim to rim while both still glow at a thousand degrees. The two mouths must match to the millimetre — one breath too many and both are lost — which is why the island reserves this gesture for its most experienced hands. Once cooled, the piece passes to the moleria, where every face is ground flat and polished on the wheel — the cold art Venetians call vetro molato.
This low vessel lets the dusk settle wide and quiet.
