Dolphin — Murano Glass Sculpture

No animal has been carved into Venetian stone more often than the dolphin — companion of sailors, emblem of safe passage, curling around the prows and fountains of the lagoon for centuries. In glass it finally gets the medium it deserves: a body caught mid-leap, translucent and weightless, the light running through it the way it runs through water.

Each dolphin is shaped free-hand at the furnace from a single gather of molten glass — no moulds, no seams. The master draws out the tail and arches the back while the glass is still liquid, which is why every leap is a little different from the last.
