The simplest arrangement in the collection: one dark field, one bright incident, nothing else. It is the arrangement a jeweller uses, and it works for the same reason — the eye needs somewhere to rest before it has somewhere to go.
Black glass carries a central decoration of streaked avventurina — the copper-crystal glass invented on Murano, where the metal is crystallised inside the melt as it cools. Against black, the effect is closer to embers than to gold: it reads dark until the light catches it, then it opens.
Because there is so little on it, this is the piece that will actually hold things — post, keys, a watch at night — without looking cluttered.
