Socrate — Murano Glass Vase
Some objects are made to hold flowers. Socrate is made to hold a thought. A squared, pillow-soft monolith of Murano glass — heavy in the hand, still on the shelf — it belongs to the same contemplative family as its sibling Philosophy: quiet geometry, meant to be looked at as much as filled.
The colour is not on the glass — it is in it, and on it, at once. At the core, a heart of colour is submerged in thick clear crystal in the sommerso technique; over the outer surface, the maestro breathes a fine cloud of metallic colour — the Venetian sbruffo, a "spray" of glass dust fused to the skin while it is still incandescent. The result is a burnished, breathing sheen that shifts as you move around it: cool Steel like polished pewter, or warm Gold like a gilded stone.
Shaped without moulds by masters who have inherited seven centuries of Venetian glassmaking, each surface catches the light its own way — no two clouds of colour ever settle the same. Choose the taller upright form or the wider, calmer one; one alone is a meditation on a console or a stack of books, the pair a quiet dialogue.
