Batllò — Murano Glass Vase
Some buildings look as though they were poured rather than built. Antoni Gaudí's Casa Batlló in Barcelona is one of them — all rippling stone and liquid line, a façade that seems to breathe and move. Batllò borrows that restless energy and casts it in Murano glass: a vase whose whole body twists upward in deep, hand-pulled ribs, like a column of water caught in the act of turning.
The effect is pure craft. While the glass is still molten, the maestro cuts it with ribs and then twists the entire form in a single motion, so the channels spiral around the body and catch the light from every angle — a technique that lives or dies on timing and cannot be faked or moulded. Run a hand around it and you feel the current; move around it and the ribs seem to keep turning. No two twists ever close the same way.
Shaped entirely by hand on the island of Murano by masters who have inherited seven centuries of Venetian glassmaking, Batllò comes in three finishes — sunlit Yellow, deep Red, and pure clear Crystal — and two heights. In colour it is a burst of light on a shelf or console; in crystal, a study in pure twisting form. A pair together, tall beside small, becomes a small flame of Venetian glass.
