Abstraction in solid glass
Where an animal has to be recognisable, an abstract piece answers only to the glass: mass, transparency, the way one colour sits inside another. These are the works that use sommerso at full depth and incalmo to fuse two blown forms into one — techniques that leave no room for correction, explained in our guide to glassblowing. Weight and optical depth are what separate them from decorative glass.
Buying with your eyes
Judge the profile from a distance, then look into the glass: colour should be deep and clean, transitions between layers sharp, with no cloudiness. Complexity costs hours at the furnace, which is why these pieces are not cheap. Give the work a plinth or a clear shelf, light from above or behind, and space. Frequently asked questions
Are these pieces signed?
Some carry an engraved signature, many do not — and a signature alone proves little, since it is the easiest thing to fake. Every piece we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity you can verify online.
Can I commission a piece?
Yes. Large works are often made to order in a chosen colour or size; send the brief through custom commissions and we will come back with feasibility, price and timing.
How are large sculptures shipped?
In custom crates, individually wrapped, fully insured and tracked to the door. For heavy pieces we recommend two people to unpack and place the work.
