MURANO GLASS · ANTIQUE MIRRORS

Antique Mirrors

These are faithful reproductions of antique Venetian mirrors, drawn from the patterns of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century originals that once hung in Venetian palaces and villas. The mirror is given a soft, silvery-grey tone, the crests are cut and engraved by hand, and small glass rosettes are applied one by one — details that give each piece the presence of a period mirror.

Unlike a genuine antique, a reproduction is newly made, perfectly reflective and built to last, without the flaking silvering or fragile joints of a centuries-old piece — and it can be made in the size your room needs. It is the ideal choice for classic interiors, historic homes and hotels. Compare them with our richer Venetian mirrors, and keep the engraved surface bright by following our care guide.

Antiqued Venetian Mirrors

New mirrors with an old face

These are not antiques: they are new mirrors finished so the glass reads as if it had spent two centuries on a wall. The silvering is treated to produce clouding, spots and soft dark patches — the look of old mercury glass — and the plate is often engraved before the finish goes on. It is a deliberate, controlled process, not damage, and each panel comes out differently.

Rooms that suit it

An antiqued mirror gives back a softened, slightly diffused reflection, which makes it easier to live with in a dining room or bedroom than a perfectly clear plate. It sits naturally with old wood, stone and warm paint, and it takes candlelight beautifully. Where you want a sharp reflection — beside a door, in a dressing area — choose a classic Venetian mirror instead.

Frequently asked questions

Is the mirror actually antique?

No, and we would never say so. Each piece is newly made on Murano with an antiqued finish. It ships with a certificate of authenticity that states exactly that — you can check it online.

Will the patina change over time?

No. The effect is created and then sealed during manufacture, so it stays as you receive it. Clean with a barely damp cloth and never with ammonia-based glass sprays.

Can it go in a bathroom?

Only in a well-ventilated one, away from direct steam. Constant humidity attacks the silvering of any mirror, antiqued or not, and the damage is not reversible.
