Chinese Figures — Murano Glass Sculpture
Marco Polo left Venice for China in 1271 and came back with stories the city did not entirely believe. Seven hundred years later, Venetian craftsmen are still making Chinese figures — robed, serene, one standing and one kneeling — and they remain among the most quietly elegant things Murano produces.
Twelve to fifteen centimetres, shaped by hand at the furnace, available in clear glass or wrapped in real gold leaf fused into the surface while hot. They are made as a pair and look their best that way, one standing and one kneeling, facing each other.
