Christmas Ornaments
Murano's Christmas ornaments are shaped using the same lampworking technique used for glass flowers and beads — a rod of glass is softened over an open flame and shaped by hand in minutes, rather than blown into a mould. It is a tradition of small-scale glasswork on the island stretching back centuries, long before Christmas trees themselves became a Venetian custom.
Because each ornament is hand-shaped rather than mass-moulded, no two are ever quite identical — a small imperfection is a sign of genuine handwork.
