Choosing Murano Glass Earrings
Colour beside the face
Earrings are the lightest way to wear Venetian glass. Each drop or sphere is wound at the flame from coloured rods, sometimes with gold leaf sealed inside or murrina flowers fused to the surface, then cooled slowly so the glass does not stress. Because they are made one at a time, the two earrings in a pair are sisters rather than twins — an unmistakable sign of hand work, explained in our techniques guide.
Findings, weight and comfort
All our earrings are mounted on nickel-free findings, and glass itself is inert: it does not oxidise or react with skin. Drops move and catch the light, studs and small spheres stay discreet for everyday wear. Weight is modest because the glass volume is small, but check the measurements on each product page if you prefer very light earrings.

Venetian glass earrings: weight and wearability
Earrings are the one piece of glass jewellery you feel all day, so weight decides whether they get worn. Hollow blown drops and small lampworked rounds stay light; solid millefiori discs are heavier and better suited to an evening than an office.
You will see these called Venetian glass earrings as often as Murano — the first names the city, the second the island where the glass is worked. Findings matter as much as the glass: ours are nickel-free, which is what makes the difference for sensitive ears.
Frequently asked questions
Are they suitable for sensitive ears?
Yes. The findings are nickel-free and the glass does not react with skin, which is why many people who cannot tolerate common alloys wear glass jewelry comfortably.
Are glass earrings heavy?
No. The volume of glass in an earring is small, so most pairs weigh only a few grams. The exact size is listed on each product page if you want to be certain.
Will the colour fade?
No. The colour of Murano glass comes from metal oxides melted into the glass itself, not from a coating, so it cannot rub off or fade in sunlight. Our article on Murano glass colours explains how each shade is made.
Do they come gift-wrapped?
Yes — every order arrives in protective luxury packaging with its certificate of authenticity, ready to be given. More ideas by occasion are on our gift page.
Are Venetian glass earrings heavy to wear?
Not usually. Blown and lampworked glass is mostly air and thin walls, so a typical pair weighs only a few grams — less than a comparable metal earring. Solid millefiori discs are the heavier exception; if you wear earrings all day, choose a hollow or smaller lampworked shape.
