Murano Glass Chandeliers
For seven centuries, the great rooms of Venice have been crowned by glass. A Murano chandelier is never pressed or moulded: every arm, every flower, every leaf is mouth-blown at the furnace and assembled by hand, one piece at a time — weeks of patient work in a single luminous object.
Our chandeliers carry the names of the palaces, doges and painters of the lagoon — Ca' Foscari, Ca' d'Oro, Leon, Tiepolo, Tiziano — from an intimate six lights to monumental twenty-four-light Rezzonico pieces two metres across. Each is made to order in any colour, from pure crystal to gold, red or violet.
Every piece arrives with a certificate of authenticity and fully insured worldwide shipping. Looking for something specific? Commission a bespoke creation or get in touch.
How to Choose a Murano Glass Chandelier
Rezzonico, floral and modern
The classic Venetian chandelier carries curved arms finished with hand-shaped flowers and leaves. The Rezzonico style — named after the Venetian palace — adds ribbed glass sleeves over the arms and is the most sumptuous of the family; simpler floral models suit lower ceilings, while contemporary pieces keep the blown structure and drop the decoration. Sizes run from five or six lights to monumental twenty-four-light pieces. Our chandelier guide compares the styles in detail.
Getting the size right
A simple rule works well: add the length and width of the room in metres and take that number in centimetres as a good diameter — a 5 × 4 m room suits roughly 90 cm. Over a dining table, choose a chandelier about half to two-thirds of the table width and hang it so the lowest glass sits 75–90 cm above the surface. In a room you walk through, leave at least 2.1 m of clearance beneath it. Every product page gives exact dimensions.
Made to order, delivered crated
Because each chandelier is assembled arm by arm, colour, number of lights and proportions can often be adapted to your room — that is what our bespoke service is for. Production takes weeks, not days, and the estimated delivery window is shown on each product page. Pieces travel crated and fully insured; before ordering from outside Europe, tell us your country so we can confirm the electrical fittings together.
What makes a Venetian chandelier Venetian
Four details separate the real thing from a reproduction. Each arm is blown separately, so no two curve in exactly the same line. The colour is in the glass — cut into the molten batch, not sprayed on a clear form, so it deepens where the glass is thick. The metal frame is sleeved in glass rather than left visible. And the flowers and leaves are worked at the flame one at a time, which is why they vary slightly across the piece.
The tiered form most people picture is the Rezzonico, named after Ca' Rezzonico on the Grand Canal: arms in two or three levels, heavy with glass fruit and flowers. Whether it is sold as a Venetian chandelier or a Murano chandelier, it is the same object — see how one is hung in our guide to mounting a chandelier.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Rezzonico chandelier?
A Venetian chandelier whose arms are covered with ribbed blown-glass sleeves, with flowers, leaves and drops applied by hand. The name comes from Ca' Rezzonico in Venice. It is the most elaborate traditional form and the most demanding to make.
Can I choose the colour and the number of lights?
Yes. Chandeliers are made to order: crystal, amber, gold, red, green or violet, and usually a different number of arms. Tell us the ceiling height and the room and we will come back with what the workshop can do, with a price and a timescale.
How long does it take and how is it shipped?
These are made-to-order pieces, so allow weeks rather than days; the estimate for each model is shown on its product page. Chandeliers are packed in custom crates with each arm protected separately, shipped fully insured and tracked.
Can I fit LED bulbs?
Yes, and they are a good idea: LEDs run cool, which is kinder to the glass. Choose warm white bulbs (around 2700 K) so the colours of the glass stay true, and dimmable bulbs with a compatible dimmer if you want to lower the light.
How do I clean and install it?
Dust with a dry microfibre cloth; for a deeper clean use a cloth barely damp with water and a drop of neutral soap, never ammonia or solvents. Installation should be done by an electrician — our step-by-step mounting guide covers the process from unboxing to first light.
How can I tell a real Venetian chandelier from a reproduction?
Compare the arms. On a genuine piece each one was blown by hand, so their curves differ slightly and the colour sits inside the glass, growing deeper where it is thickest. Reproductions have identical moulded arms, surface colour that looks flat under light, and visible metal at the joints. Ask where the glass was blown and for a certificate naming Murano.
