French-Style Mirrors
French-style Murano glass mirrors carry the elegance of the nineteenth-century salon. Compared with the exuberant Venetian tradition, their frames are cleaner and more architectural — straight lines, deep bevels that catch the light like cut crystal, and fine hand engraving in delicate garlands and borders. The bond between Venice and France is historic: in the 1600s France lured Venetian mirror-makers away to found its own royal glassworks, whose mirrors would line the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles.

French-style mirrors keep Murano craft but change the drawing: softer curves, a taller crest, ribbons and bows instead of dense flowers, and frames built from clear mirrored bands rather than colour. The eighteenth century traded this taste back and forth across the Alps, and Murano has made both versions ever since. The glass work is the same — engraved plate, blown decoration, everything by hand.
How to use it
Because the frame is lighter in feel, a French-style mirror suits bedrooms, dressing rooms and smaller walls where a full Venetian frame would dominate. It pairs well with painted furniture and fabric, and two smaller ones flanking a bed often work better than one large piece. Compare with the classic Venetian style before deciding.

What is the difference from a Venetian mirror?
Mostly ornament and proportion: Venetian frames are denser, with coloured flowers and a strong crest; French-style frames are more linear, with curves and ribbons and usually clear glass. Both are made on Murano, by hand.
Can it be made in a specific size?

How do I clean the frame?
Dust with a soft dry brush, then wipe the plate with a cloth barely damp with water. Never spray liquid onto the mirror: it runs behind the glass and damages the silvering.
