Murano's tables have been set with hand-blown glass since the Renaissance, when the island's furnaces supplied centrepieces and tableware to European courts alongside their famous drinking glasses. The same sommerso and filigrana techniques used in our vases and sculptures shape every bowl, candleholder and centrepiece in this collection — see our guide to Murano glass techniques for how each is made.
A hand-blown centrepiece or bowl makes a considered, lasting gift — our gift guide can help you choose the right piece for an occasion. Every item is certified authentic and arrives ready for the table; our care guide covers cleaning and everyday use.
Murano Glass Around the Home
Objects that are used, not only admired
This is the part of Murano that lives with you daily: centrepieces for the dining table, bowls for fruit or keys by the door, candleholders for the evening, and the Venetian mirrors that give a room its light back. All are blown and finished by hand on the island, so each piece is a one-off even within its model.
Where glass belongs in a room
Coloured glass needs light behind or above it: a window sill, a shelf near a lamp, a console opposite a mirror. On a dining table keep any object below about 35 cm so people can see each other across it. Keep pieces away from table edges, radiators and speakers, dust with a soft dry cloth, and wash by hand rather than in a dishwasher — the care guide covers the details.
Frequently asked questions
Can these pieces hold food?
Bowls and centrepieces are made to be used: glass is inert and holds no flavour. Rinse with lukewarm water afterwards and dry by hand; only pieces described as purely decorative should stay empty.
Do they arrive with a certificate?
Yes. Every piece ships with a certificate of authenticity you can verify online, in protective packaging suitable for giving.
Can I order a piece in another colour?
Often yes, since each object is blown individually. Tell us the model and the colour through our custom commissions page and we will come back with feasibility, price and timing.
