DESCRIPTION
Murano Glass Centerpiece — Luce
Luce means light, and in a city built on water light arrives twice — once from the sky and once back up off the canal. That second light is the Venetian one. It is why the palaces put their best rooms on the water side, and why everything here is designed to be seen from below as well as above.
The base is black glass, the rim is drawn in a clear colour, and the centre carries the same colour laid over a layer of silver leaf. The silver is what makes the piece work: it sits under the colour and throws the light back through it, so the centre glows rather than reflects.
Put it where light can reach underneath — a glass shelf, a windowsill, a table near a lamp. In a dark corner you lose the silver, and with it half the piece.
