Marea — Murano Glass Vase
Venice does not measure time in hours — it measures it in tides. Twice a day the lagoon rises and retreats, and on every brick and marble wall it leaves its signature: a dark, wandering waterline. Marea — "the tide" — wraps that line around a vase. A warm satin body the colour of tobacco, mouth-blown on the island of Murano, is circled by a single deep tone-on-tone band that drifts across the glass the way the tide's mark drifts across a palazzo wall — never straight, never twice the same.
The band is not painted and not applied afterwards: it is a ribbon of darker molten glass wrapped around the body while both are still glowing, so the two colours fuse into one skin. Once cooled, the whole surface is softly satin-finished by hand, giving Marea the matte warmth of driftwood and stone rather than the shine of glass. Shaped without moulds by masters who have inherited seven centuries of Venetian glassmaking, each band rises and falls with its own current — no two tides, and no two Mareas, are ever alike.
The family comes in three silhouettes drawn from the same lagoon: a tall oval, a full round moon, and a small round companion. One alone is a quiet sculptural presence; together they stand like the tide seen three times in a day.
