Swan — Murano Glass Sculpture
A swan is a test of nerve for a glassmaker. The neck has to be drawn out long and thin while the body is still heavy and molten, and it has to hold that curve as it cools — too fast and it cracks, too slow and it sags. Which is why the swan has always been one of the pieces Murano uses to prove itself.
Ours come with the neck raised proud or curved down in that soft heart-shape swans make when they preen, from a small gilded thirteen centimetres to a commanding thirty-six, with or without real gold leaf fused into the glass.
