For a thousand years Venice was a republic that lived entirely by sea, and the sail is still the shape the city thinks in. In glass it becomes something a canvas sail can never be: transparent, curved as though full of wind, and lit from within whenever the sun finds it.
Each sail is drawn out by hand into a single sheet, thin enough to glow, then set into the hull while both are still hot enough to fuse. From twenty-eight to forty-three centimetres, in clear glass or finished with real gold leaf. Place it where the light comes from behind — that is when it stops being an ornament.
